Can Counselling Help Me And What Is It For?  -

Life brings with it many challenges and sometimes the timing of them can catch you off balance; counselling can help with this adjustment by helping you cope over difficult periods of time.  In addition, emotional upheaval and personal difficulties can leave their mark by blocking or diminishing your confidence and self-determination.  This in turn may hold you back from living life to your full potential.

Are you presently suffering from anxiety, stress or depression?  You might be experiencing relationship issues and feel that you do not know where to turn.  Or at the moment,  are things getting on top of you and you need clarity and some thinking space in order to cope with things. Loneliness, sadness, trauma and health issues can also take their toll on your strength and resilience to carry on.

I offer you a warm, confidential, non-judgemental environment to explore the issues you bring into the counselling room.  My therapeutic approach is integrative. This means I use a blend of different skills to help and support you.  Being able to offer these approaches will  enrich our sessions.  In addition, sometimes it may be more comfortable for you to use creative techniques to explore your pain, such as drawing  or mind mapping rather than talking. This is completely acceptable as you need to be comfortable with the way in which you wish express yourself.  I will give you the space, understanding and acceptance for you to be yourself.
In certain states of distress, counselling can facilitate to change  -
  •     the way you see things
  •     the way you think about things
  •     the way you feel about things
  •     the way you behave

A person will come into counselling for one or more of the following -

  •    recovery
  •     problem-solving
  •     self-awareness
  •     strategies for living
  •     support

The sort of distress that a person might feel can be emotional and/or psychological such as -
  •     stress
  •     coping with poor health
  •     bereavement
  •     depression
  •     conflict
  •     trauma
"I have learnt to laugh again"
"Finally I can breathe out"
"With every week of seeing Christine, I could feel and hear myself changing"
"My  new found self esteem and confidence now lets me live, whereas before, I just functioned"
"Reluctantly I went to counselling, sometimes I just sat and cried, sometimes didn't want to speak, but Christine 'held' me all the time and I got rid of everything that had held me back"
 Counselling, CBT and Coaching

Counselling can take on many different forms but whatever the therapists' background and ways of working, the main aim is to offer
a non-judgemental, confidential, empathic, trusting relationship.

In the counselling relationship we work together to explore and uncover issues that may be out of your awareness, but are holding you back from reaching your full potential.  Once these issues are realised, the burden can then be lifted with emotional wellbeing, confidence and high self esteem (self-worth, self efficacy, living consciously and purposefully) no longer being a struggle to achieve.

CBT is recognised for helping people who suffer from depression, anxiety, stress, low self esteem and other difficulties that cause distress.  It has techniques to refocus and retrain your awareness - an approach in changing negative thought patterns. It offers coping strategies, empowering you to be more confident thus combating destructive beliefs and actions.

Coaching can help you go into the future with hope. It offers support with realising and achieving your life goals.  Coaching also facilitates personal and professional development.

A combination of counselling, coaching and CBT interventions from myself can help you grow in strength and self esteem; to move from being emotionally 'stuck' into a more acceptable and comfortable psychological place to be.
